Intel's 19-slot CH543OSR Chassis/Central Services Module package provides a basic platform for the integration of large capacity systems that are capable of On-line Service and Repair (OSR).

The CH543OSR modular packaging allows for integration into standard 19-inch rack mount cabinets and fits a 24-inch deep rack.  Each chassis is compactly built, ruggedly constructed and features superior Intel quality and high reliability.  The backplane of the CH543OSR is equipped with power FETs at each slot that are controlled by the Central Services Module (CSM).  These electronic switches control all of the voltages available at the P1 connector.  Lugs are provided to supply switched power to the P2 connector if needed by the card to be inserted.

The new Central Services Module is responsible for managing the central system functions of clock generation, arbitration and assignment of IDs as defined by the Multibus II specification.  The CSM also provides a centralized capability to detect boards that have been inserted into the chassis (but not powered up) and to control the power and reset to each slot in the chassis independently.  Any other processor in the system may take advantage of these status and control functions by reading or writing interconnect registers on the CSM.  The CSM also provides a global, battery backed up clock available to all other processors on the bus, again through the interconnect registers.  Finally, the CSM provides two serial ports that may be connected to local serial terminals for local system control or through modems for remote system control and monitoring.
