BP0575 MULTI-CHANNEL SERIAL I/O BOARD

The BP0575, another member of NEC's family of IEEE 796 Bus (formerly MultibusTM) compatible board products, is a versatile 5-channel asynchronous serial communications controller with both EIA RS232C and optically isolated current loop interface capabilities. The board is designed to be plugged into any standard IEEE 796 Bus backplane and to operate with 8 or 16-bit microprocessors.

The board accepts data from the host processor in parallel data format and transmits serially to terminals, modems, or printers. The BP0575 accepts serial data over its duplex channels and transfers it to the host processor in parallel format. Also, processor-to-processor, bi-directional, serial communication can be implemented between systems equipped with BP0575s.

The major functional element in the BP0575 is the APD8251A Programmable Communications Interface Chip. NEC manufactures and is the leading world-wide supplier of this industry standard component. One /2PD8251A per channel and associated circuitry provide support for the EIA
standard modem control signals request to send (RTS), data terminal ready (DTR), clear to send (CTS), and data set ready (DSR). Each channel has jumper-selectable receive/ transmit baud rates from 75-19,200 on the EIA interface and up to 2400 baud on the current loop interface.
A jumper-selectable on-board interrupt scheme gives the user the option to logically OR together any or all transmit and receive interrupt lines for the five ports, to decrease the number of bus interrupts used by the BP0575.

The BP0575 can be addressed in any 16-byte block beginning on any 16-byte boundary within the 256 byte I/O page. The board may be accessed through 12 jumper-selectable I/O ports within the 16-byte I/O block, and the user may address the five serial I/O channels and the two interrupt status registers in any order or priority within the addressed block.

This unique combination of features and flexibility makes the BP0575 the logical choice in a wide range of IEEE 796 Bus applications.
